Baritone John B. Cooper’s repertoire, in a wide range of styles, has given him a reputation as a dynamic and versatile artist. Most recently, John performed the parts of Zechariah and Joseph in Andrew T. Miller’s The Birth of Christ, which was recorded in Dublin, Ireland with narrator Liam Neeson. This was released by Sony Masterworks on DVD and CD during the 2007 holiday season and was also seen across the nation on PBS. John made his Carnegie Hall debut, Christmas 2007, performing selections from The Birth Of Christ. Upcoming, John will be performing at Spokane Opera’s Gala New Year’s Eve event, Diamonds and Divas, with world renowned soprano, Jane Eaglen. Immediately following that John will be traveling to Rome for a special performance of The Birth of Christ at the Vatican.

John started out his opera career as a resident artist at Portland opera, and then went on to perform in main stage productions. Some of his favorites include such roles as Marcello in La Boheme, Danilo in The Merry Widow, Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni, The Father in Hansen and Gretel, Valentine in Faust, Frank in Die Fledermaus, and Figaro in The Barber of Seville.Mr. Cooper has performed extensively on the theater stage, in over a dozen shows at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre including Mame with Juliet Prowse, Kismet with Patrice Munsel, Camelot with Noel Harrison, The Sound of Music with Terrence Mann, and Sweeney Todd with Allen Fitzpatrick. Miller’s The Prodigal, Zeus in Andrew T. Miller’s The Legend of Pandora.

He also enjoys a career as a concert soloist. John’s reputation for his command of the baritone role in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana has taken him from Chicago to Spokane and to regular New Year’s Eve performances at Seattle’s prestigious 5th Avenue Theatre. John is well known for his work as the baritone soloist in Bach’s B Minor Mass and for his performances of Pilate, and the bass arias in St. John’s Passion. He has appeared in a nationally televised PBS special, Voices Across America with Paul Sorvino. John has also recorded numerous albums with Mr. Miller, including a hurricane Katrina relief piece, The Answer, which was aired internationally on EWTN.

Mr. Cooper has won many regional and national competitions and awards including Metropolitan Opera auditions finalist 1990 and 1990 San Francisco Opera Merola Regional winner. He has also been a Seattle Mariners, National Anthem favorite, singing at over fifty-seven games in the last five years. Mr. Cooper has studied with Master Voice Teacher, Mr. William Eddy. John would like to thank his beautiful wife Sharon for all of her support.
